A Virus from Outer Space – Portfolio

A VIRUS FROM OUTER SPACE
‘Language is a virus from outer space.’
— William S. Burroughs
A Virus from Outer Space is a portfolio of six silkscreens, produced in collaboration with the celebrated printmaker Eveline Kolijn. The portfolio consists of work inspired by the biotic traits of the organism Deinococcus radiodurans — the symbiote for a work of ‘living poetry’ (the eponym from The Xenotext). The portfolio contains three works on paper: two maps of the genome for this organism, plus a depiction of the protein that lends this microbe its biological resistance to an array of lethal biomes able to kill most living things. The work includes a silkscreen of six anagrams, inspired by a quote from William S. Burroughs about the virality of language.
